Pre-Formal Pathway
The Pre-Formal Pathway supports pupils with profound and complex learning needs who are working at the most foundational stages of development. Rather than traditional subject content, learning focuses on essential sensory awareness, emotional regulation, physical wellbeing, and the earliest forms of body-based communication. Guided by a sensory-first and relationship-led approach, pupils build connection through trusting relationships, predictable routines, and co-active exploration with familiar adults. Progress is measured through ipsative assessment against each pupil's starting point across core engagement steps.
